Mayfair favourite Sketch, in Conduit Street, has once again refreshed its artistic identity, unveiling a new installation by British artist Jonathan Baldock inside its Gallery restaurant. Known for treating art as a central part of the dining experience rather than background decoration, Sketch continues its long-running tradition of collaborating with contemporary artists.
Baldock’s installation features 84 hand-made clay masks, displayed as part of a wider sculptural environment that explores ritual, identity, and transformation. The works introduce a more tactile, slightly unsettling energy to the Gallery space, offering a contrast to Sketch’s famously elegant interiors and reinforcing its reputation as a place where art and hospitality intersect.
The new commission follows a lineage of high-profile artistic takeovers at Sketch, which have included installations by David Shrigley and Yinka Shonibare.
